Hiking trails of unearthly beauty are everywhere in Crested Butte – there are easy trails like the Lower Loop, sturdier trails like the Upper Loop, and amazingly difficult trails… Once again, I recommend you get a book with maps! The Base Area

The Base area offers more than great music in the evenings. The chair lifts run all summer and into the fall. Hook your mountain bike to the back and bike down! You can rent bikes at the base. Or hike down! The view around Crested Butte valley is so amazing. They also have activities at the base - mountain climbing, zip lining - mostly for kids. There is even a children's museum. Buy tickets at the Adventure Center.

Horseback Riding

Fantasy Ranch offers lovely beginner rides up Snodgrass Mountain, a gorgeous ride just across the road from Mt. Crested Butte – just drive up Hwy. 135 past Mt. Crested Butte towards Gothic and before too far it’s on your left. They also offer amazing pack trips to Aspen and to the back country. The owner Chuck, is affable and hardworking! Whitewater Rafting

3 Rivers Rafting offers great white water rafting on the Taylor River - Classes I, II, and III. Raft in large rafts, or... if you've got some hot dog 18 year olds (or you just feel that way) try the duckies! (see left). You will never forget it! 1-888-761-3474

Also: 3 Rivers organizes a wonderful dinner activity: "Garlic Mike's Float 'N Dine" trip. Guests raft from Almont to Garlic Mike's and then have a wonderful meal there. The price is $58 for adults and $35 for kids 10 and under. It includes rafting and a $25 voucher for dinner (or $10 for kid's meal). No discount on the dinner trip, tho.

Scenic River Tours on the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers- Call Scenic River Tours at 970-641-3131. They offer float trips, white water rafting trips on both the Taylor AND Gunnison Rivers. One lovely trip is a "float" trip, great for kids and the elderly - just beautiful scenery as you glide along.
