The Live from Mt. CB music series returns for the summer of 2011 with an exciting lineup of amazing musicians. Join us every Wednesday between July 6th and August 24th for an evening of free music at the base of Mt. Crested Butte.All shows will take place at the Red Lady Stage in Mt. Crested Butte from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
August 4 -Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory : Marmots
Adults and children over 12 (with an adult) Enjoy a beautiful morning outdoors! We invite you to explore the world of field scientists and learn how they use the Elk Mountains to understand our world. You will step into the shoes of scientists to learn about their field research as we explore each week's topic. Each tour includes moderate hiking as you follow your guide up the winding footpaths of Gothic to research meadows, forests, and streams.Join us on Thursdays from 9 - 11 a.m. and enjoy a delicious lunch in the RMBL Dining Hall.
August 5: Wednesdays at Western State: Watercolor Sketching Workshop, Melissa Neuner, $10
"Wednesdays at Western" will occur every Wednesday between June 24 and August 5, 2009, at the WSC campus and throughout the Gunnison Valley. There are a total of seven different activities and learning opportunities ranging from geology and history tours to art workshops and star-gazing.
The activities provide opportunities for Gunnison Valley visitors and residents to spend a day enjoying and learning about the area. Program leaders are all local community members and professionals in their fields.

August 5,6-- Gunnison Valley Observatory Open for Public Viewing, Gunnison
The gates will open at 8:00 pm and no reservations are required. It's still chilly, so dress warmly. A "Summer Nights Program" will be held on Friday and Saturday nights starting on July 2nd. Viewers are invited to come and enjoy a mini-lecture on a variety of interesting astronomy topics and then view the night sky through the 30" telescope and several amateur telescopes. Gates for the Summer Nights Programs will open at 8:00 pm. Suggested donation for the Summer Series is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
August 5-7 Crested Butte Arts Festival
Crested Butte, Colorado, is home to one of the nation's top arts festivals. Now in its 39th year, the Crested Butte Arts Festival features incredible art, fantastic cuisine, exhilarating entertainment, artist demonstrations, chef demonstrations, children's activities and an art auction. There's something for everyone at the Festival, where surrounding beauty, artistic talent, and appreciative patrons merge for one, glorious weekend.

August 29 - Chefs on the Edge , Crested Butte Center for the Arts
August 23, 6:30 pm --Chefs On The Edge is one of the most exciting, fun filled events you will see in Crested Butte! Challenging the creative talents of local chefs as they cook against the clock, they must incorporate a secret ingredient into every plate they prepare. Each dish is then reviewed by a panel of distinguished judges who will ultimately crown one of the chefs a winner. Armed with basic kitchen instruments and maybe one or two special tools, familiar chefs turn the Center stage into the Center Kitchen. The winner joins the ranks of the Gunnison Valley's finest chefs and gets bragging rights for a year.
